I hear the same hesitation from almost every client: “I love it, but what if I hate it in a year?” It’s a fair worry, wallpaper feels like a bigger commitment than paint. But it’s one of the most transformative things you can do to a room, and there’s a low-risk way to try it.

Start Small

Start small. A downstairs loo or WC is the perfect testing ground, it’s a tiny space, it doesn’t cost much to paper, and a bold pattern that might overwhelm a bedroom can feel exactly right in a room you’re only in for a few minutes at a time. It also pairs beautifully with art, so it’s a good place to hang pieces that might get lost on a plain wall elsewhere.

Try One Wall Before Committing to Four

If a full room still feels like a leap, try one wall rather than four. A single papered wall behind a bed or in a fireplace gives you the drama without covering the whole room, a good stepping stone before committing further.

Wallpaper in the Bedroom

From there, bedrooms are a natural next step. I’m a firm believer in wallpapering bedrooms. One of the few rooms where a strong pattern can feel enveloping rather than overwhelming.

If I didn’t think a pattern would work in your space, I’d tell you, that’s the whole point of getting a second opinion first.
