Interior Makeover v House Styling

What’s the difference?

Although the business is called The House Stylist, I often find myself doing more interior makeovers—especially for clients who want to continue living in their homes. Life changes, like children moving out or evolving tastes, often call for more permanent updates. That said, most projects end up being a blend—some rooms just need styling, while others benefit from a full makeover.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the key differences:

House Styling

  • Purpose: Focused on visual appeal—perfect for staging a home for sale or simply refreshing a space to create a new mood or vibe.
  • Scope: Involves light-touch updates such as rearranging furniture, updating decor (art, cushions, rugs, plants), and refining colour palettes. There are no major renovations.
  • Outcome: A cohesive, stylish space that highlights a home’s best features and elevates its look—often with minimal disruption.

Interior Makeover

  • Purpose: A more comprehensive approach designed to enhance both form and function—ideal when you’re staying put and want long-term improvements.
  • Scope: Can include painting, updating furniture, flooring changes, or even reconfiguring layouts and full-room renovations. It’s more involved and may require a larger budget and timeline.
  • Outcome: A refreshed, functional, and beautiful living space tailored to your current lifestyle and future needs.

In summary:

House styling is all about quick, aesthetic updates; interior makeovers offer a deeper transformation. Most projects sit somewhere in between—and we’re here to help you find the right balance for your home.
